| Let me dust off my Xanga...
It is obvious that no one has really been doing much updating, with the exception of Berteaux. I've been reading loosely, about once a month, but I haven't updated since April. A lot has changed since then and my perspective has changed as well. Let me tell you that life comes at you fast once you're out of the bubble of undergrad.
Since my last post, I decided to attend UNC Chapel Hill. I live a small, studio apartment by myself. It was a daring move, figuring I don't know many people. I do some social events with my department at times, yet it is a little awkward. None of us really know each other, and we are all at different points in our lives, whether it be professionally, personally, or just age. My class has probably around 55 people, 8 of which are like me and are straight out of undergrad. Most people are in their mid-20s, but there are plenty of people who are either in long term relationships, married, or even have kids. It's a hard adjustment, but I'm managing.
Speaking of relationships... well that is a just an entirely different post by itself. Some of you know what happened, and the rest of you will eventually find out. It's hard to move on when nightmares keep haunting my sleep over the issue.
Other things have changed as well. My mom had to put my dog to sleep on Friday. He had a seizure on Tuesday, and my mom called the mobile vet and got him stabilized. Then Thursday night- Friday morning, he had three more, one where he bit his tongue. All of them were taking a very drastic toll on him, and he knew something was not right. He was scared and frightened. I know it was the right thing to do, I just wish I got a chance to say goodbye in person. It might have been better that I wasn't there, since I have never been home when any of my pets passed away. He did live a good life for a dog who was struck my car and got around with limp. Eleven years old for his breed and with his condition is long life.
There have been a few good times. I went to my first minor league baseball game last night by attending a Durham Bulls game. About 20 members of my department showed up, and the game had about 11,000 people in attendance. We unfortunately had to buy standing room only tickets, which were $7. The game was alright, but they had a very impressive fireworks show at the end. I may be going to another game on Tuesday with a friend from my department and her roommates department.
In other good news, I'll be going to DC in mid-September. That will be a nice break. But unfortunately I will not be home for Thanksgiving for the first time ever. I would go, but I have all my finals due the week after, with two on the Monday. Although I won't be home for thanksgiving, I should be home around the Thursday after on December 4. I then will be home for entire month, which will be nice. If anyone is interested in coming out (I doubt it), let me know and I have a list of some good weekends. Also, I may be driving my car back to NC at the end of break, which will be a nice trip to see the country.
Anyways I've been thinking about starting another blog. One for the general public, attached to my facebook page. It would primarily deal with some observations here in the south. For example when I'm done with this post, I will be attending a brunch at a southern restaurant. I'm sure I will have something uniquely southern, which in itself is a post. I feel like I want to tell people somethings, and the easiest forum is on the internet. I'm not entirely sure on the direction I want to take, but I just want to say something. I would still maintain my xanga in some capacity. Let me know what you think, if anyone reads this.
It would be interesting to see if anyone will respond or even post from now on. I trust Berteuax will continue, but it appears that xanga maybe dead for the rest of us.

| So I haven't updated in sometime, so I'll give a run down of two things that have been going on in my life: grad school and travel.
First up: Travel. For the last month or so I have been everywhere and by every means necessary. I've been traveling to visit grad schools and to follow GW women's basketball with the band. Here is a breakdown of where I've been since the beginning of March.
1. Philadelphia to the b-ball against St. Joes (by van) 2. Philadelphia for the A-10 b-ball tourny (by bus) 3. Grad school road trip with Andre (by car); visited 7 states (MD, PA, WV, OH, KY, VA, NC); saw four schools: Cincinnati, North Carolina, Virginia, and Marshall (for fun, so I could do the whole "we are..." stuff) 4. Flew to San Francisco for the NCAA tourny at Stanford. 5. Bused around San Fran, San Jose, Santa Cruz, and the Northern Coast. 6. Bused to Greensboro for NCAA regionals. 7. Bused to NY and then took a train to Rutgers for an open house.
And this Thursday, I leave for Winston Salem for a tennis tourny.
While all this has been going on, I have had school work plus the flu at one point. I've also had to decide about grad schools.
That brings be to grad schools. Here is the run down of where I've been accepted, the current money situation, the deposit, and their deadline.
1. University of Virginia (accepted, no money, $250 deposit, April 14th deadline)
2. University of North Carolina (accepted, waiting to hear about money, $100 deposit, April 15th deadline)
3. University of Cincinnati (accepted, waiting to hear about money, no deposit, March 15th deadline) I've already said "yes", but there is no deposit so it can't hurt me if I decide not to go.
4. Rutgers (accepted, waiting to hear about money on 4/15, no deposit, no deadline) I can wait to see with them.
5. UCLA (accepted, no money, not sure about the deposit, April 15th deadline)
6. University of Michigan (accepted, 1/2 off first semester, not sure about the deposit, April 15th deadline). I've pretty much canceled out Michigan because it is way too expensive and cold.
7. UC Berkeley (rejected)
So I have ten days to pretty much decide, but I can commit to a few schools with minimal costs right now. Also, by money, I mean scholarship money, because I will always have access to loans. Right now UCLA is the cheapest option, but depending on the others, they can be pretty comparable.
I'll keep you all updated and hopefully someone will read this.
